When it comes to fall/winter style, I become a bit fanatical about adding in different textures. While pairing prints together can pack a punch, I love the subtlety and sophistication that pairing lux fabrics/textiles together brings. As I think back to my design school days, I was always a bit obsessed with the idea of adding in texture. If I couldn’t find what I was looking for in a fabric, I would manipulate it to create that three dimensional effect.

With print mixing, I feel like you can only pair a couple(three at the most) patterns together, but with textures, you can combine multiple options together. For instance, in this look you’ll find 5 different textures: chunky knit, smooth suede, distressed denim, leather and velvet. With all of that going on, you’d think it would be overkill, but the result ends up being a more polished, pull together and visually interesting look, in my opinion.

Whenever a look feels a little ‘flat’, I always find that adding in a chunky knit, a fur or some other interesting textile really helps to solidify and bring it all together.

How do you incorporate different fabrics and textures in your fall and winter looks?
