Sometimes, you just gotta put press the ‘hold’ button on life and head out of town for a therapeutic weekend laughing and cutting up with friends, am I right? That’s exactly what my photographer friend and I did a couple weekends ago in New Orleans. It was a last minute decision, but I find those to be the best getaways. No expectations….just all impromptu and flying by the seat of our pants. Ha!
We ended up spending some time at the French Quarter Festival listening to some 40’s style jazz bands, ate on the rooftop at Tableau French Quarter and did some shopping. All the things us girls like to do. It was perfect.
I did a little hotel research a couple days before and we settled on staying at The Drifter Hotel on Tulane Ave.
Once we finally found it (it’s a little hidden gem and you’ll pass right by it if you’re not looking) , we ended up loving the nostalgic hipster feel of the place. Built in 1956, it was redesigned to reflect a newer, modern feel but still incorporate a bohemian 70’s minimalist ambiance of sorts.
From the local artwork decorating the walls, to the specialty coffee bar, to the music events held at the pool at night, we really enjoyed the uniqueness of the place. If you’re looking for somewhere different and interesting to stay while you’re in New Orleans, it’s a fun little spot to check out! The staff were super friendly and helpful, but the one thing I will tell you though is to be prepared to possibly get an eye full at the pool. Swim tops are optional and yes, we did witness a couple of au natural moments first hand. Ha!
